Clean Hands, Safe Hands Campaign

 13th October 2025

Dear Parent /Guardian

As part of the Clean Hands, Safe Hands campaign, the Public Health Team from

Worcestershire County Council will visit the school on Thursday 16th October to conduct an interactive demonstration focused on effective handwashing.

Proper handwashing helps reduce the transmission of infections, such salmonellosis, and respiratory illnesses including influenza, colds, and norovirus.

During the demonstration, children will learn about the importance of handwashing and be shown the correct techniques to ensure their hands are thoroughly cleaned. Each child will be invited to wash their hands and then inspect how well they have done under a UV light, which will highlight any areas they might have missed.

As part of the activity, a special UV lotion will be applied to the children's hands before they wash them. After handwashing, any areas where the lotion remains will glow under a UV lamp, vividly demonstrating the spots that may have been missed and showing just how important thorough handwashing is.

The UV lotion used is gentle, hypoallergenic, and suitable for all skin types. However, if you believe your child should not have the lotion applied due to allergies or skin conditions, please complete the online form by clicking here and alternative activities will be arranged.

In addition to the handwashing demonstration, children will have the opportunity to design their own "ugly bug." These creative designs will be featured on the Clean Hands Safe Hands webpage, celebrating the children's participation and promoting good hygiene in a fun and engaging way.

Additional resources, including activity packs for children, are available at Clean hands, safe hands | Worcestershire County Council

Please contact us if you have any questions.

Kind regards
